Developed by Dr Maria Longobardi (University of Basel, NCCR SPIN), this year’s course follows the delivery of a highly successful quantum computing training offering in 2025 and will comprise four technical lectures and an international quantum ecosystem seminar. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to understand “the physical principles, technological platforms and broader ecosystems underpinning contemporary quantum technologies”.

The course will be delivered online, via Zoom, to a select cohort of some 30-40 participants. Applications are invited from early career researchers (Master’s students, PhD candidates and postdoctoral associates) with a foundational background in quantum mechanics or quantum information. Evidence of this knowledge needs to be provided as part of the application process. Selection will prioritize geographic diversity, with particular attention to representation from the Global South and regions underserved by existing quantum training opportunities. The course is open to applicants of all genders, with selection aiming for equitable gender representation in line with UNESCO’s commitment to gender equality in science and technology.

Key dates:

• Application deadline: 31 October 2026

• Participants announced: Mid-November 2026

• Open course: 23–27 November 2026
